Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted at Waco, TX as a Private in Company E, 4th Texas Infantry on 13 July 1861.
On the Campaign
He was not with his Company at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September, but was severely wounded in his right shoulder in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862, and captured.
The rest of the War
He was paroled at Sharpsburg on 27 September, briefly in US Army General Hospital #5 in Frederick, MD on 15 and 16 October, sent to Ft. McHenry, then on to Fortress Monroe, VA on 18 October, for exchange. He was admitted to Chimborazo Hospital #4 in Richmond, VA on 24 October and furloughed home on 28 November (or 2 December) for 50 days. His furlough was extended, but he did not return, and he was listed as absent without leave as of 2 February 1863. There is no later military record.
