Age 30, from Manchester, NH, he enlisted 16 August 1861 and mustered as Sergeant, First NewHampshire Light Artillery on 26 September 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was commissioned First Lieutenant of the Battery on 28 September 1863 and was wounded again, in action at the Po River, VA on 10 May 1864. He mustered out on 6 October 1864.
