Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted in Waco as a Private in Company E, 4th Texas Infantry on 13 July 1861.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was detailed as a courier to General Hood from 12 November 1862 to at least October 1864 except for a recruiting trip to Texas in May and June 1864. His horse was killed at Darbytown Road near Petersburg, VA on 13 October 1864 and valued at $2,000. He was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.
