A 24 year old bootmaker in Randolph, MA, he enlisted on 6 August and mustered as Private, Company E, 35th Massachusetts Infantry on 19 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was treated at the Locust Spring field hospital on the Geeting Farm near Keedysville, MD but died there of his wounds on 6 October 1862.
