From West Hartford, CT, he enlisted on 8 October 1861 and mustered as Private, Company D, 11th Connecticut Infantry on 12 November 1861. He was promoted to Corporal on 21 April 1862 but reduced again to Private on 15 August.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
