Living in New Haven, CT, he enlisted on 24 April 1861 and mustered as Private, Company C, 3rd Connecticut Infantry on 14 May. He mustered out in Hartford on 12 August. He enlisted again and mustered as Private, Company G, 11th Connecticut Infantry on 4 December 1861.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
