He was a sailor in Lebanon, New London County, CT at the 1850 US Census. He enlisted on 16 September 1861, then living in Franklin, CT, and mustered as Corporal, Company H, 11th Connecticut Infantry on 25 October 1861.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862, age 36.
