In 1860 he was a 19 year old living with his French-born parents and 5 siblings on the family farm at Norfolk, Litchfield County, CT. He enlisted on 27 November 1861 and mustered as Private, Company E, 11th Connecticut Infantry the same day.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
