From Woodstock, CT, he enlisted on 5 October 1861 and mustered as Private, Company H, 11th Connecticut Infantry on 25 October 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of disease at Lincoln General Hospital in Washington, DC on 4 January 1862 and was originally buried there, but was reinterred at home on 16 January 1863.
