Before Antietam
In 1860 he was a 34 year old master carpenter in Newport, Vermillion County, IN. He enlisted and mustered as a Private in Company I, 14th Indiana Infantry on 7 June 1861.
On the Campaign
He was killed by a gunshot to his head in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
His widow began receiving a pension in December 1862.
