In 1860 he was a 24 year old farm hand on the Abner Floyd place at Russell's Mills in Parke County, IN. He mustered as Fourth Corporal of Company A, 14th Indiana Infantry on 7 June 1861.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
