A laborer's son, in 1860 he was a 22 year old living with his father (grandfather? parents?) and siblings at Evansville in Vanderburgh County, IN. He enlisted and mustered on 7 June 1861 as a Private in Company E, 14th Indiana Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
