Before Antietam
A farmer in Braintree, MA, giving his age as 38, he mustered as Private in Company E, 20th Massachusetts Infantry on 15 August 1862.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.
The rest of the War
He died of wounds at the 2nd Corps field hospital on the Susan Hoffman Farm near Sharpsburg on 2 October 1862.

Service information from Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines.1 His gravesite is on Findagrave. He married Eliza Allen (cousin?), date not known. He married his second wife Phoebe Neal(e) Glover (1811-1847) in 1838, and probably had a son, George. It seems likely he understated his age and was born well before 1824.
