He enlisted in Texas as Private in Company C, First Texas Infantry and joined his Company in New Orleans on 27 May 1861. He was elected 2nd Lieutenant and promoted to First Lieutenant, dates not given.

On the Campaign

He was reported as absent without leave immediately before the battle at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was reduced in rank to Private with no further record with the First Infantry. He also had service as Private, Company C, 4th Battalion, Virginia Infantry, Local Defense (Naval Battalion).
