He mustered as Private in Company H, First Texas Infantry on 24 June 1861 in New Orleans. He was wounded at Gaines' Mill, VA on 27 June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was captured at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863. He was held at Fort Delaware, but died there of smallpox on 2 November 1863.
