Before Sharpsburg
He mustered as Private in Company I, First Texas Infantry on 24 June 1861 in New Orleans. He commanded his Company as a Private at Malvern Hill, VA on 1 July 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 23 October 1862 but was killed in action at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863. He was originally buried on the Plank Farm (Hood's Division hospital) at Gettysburg, and reinterred in Hollywood Cemetery in 1872.
