Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted in Company M, First Texas Infantry when they organized in Trinity County, and mustered for Confederate service as Private on 5 May 1862 at Sumpter, TX.

On the Campaign

He was captured near Fredrick, MD on 12 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was exchanged on 10 November 1862. He was severely wounded in the Wilderness, VA on 6 May 1864 and his right arm was amputated. He was discharged for disability on 13 March 1865.

After the War

He returned to Texas.

Service information from Simpson.1 His return to Texas from Sgt. D.H. Hamilton in his History of Company M (1925). His gravesite is on Findagrave.

He married twice: Annis Percilla Jane Miller (1834-1878) in 1855 and Martha Ann Hammond (1848-1940) in 1880, and had at least 13 children (9+4).
