He enlisted in Company M, First Texas Infantry when they organized in Trinity County, and mustered for Confederate service as Private on 5 May 1862 at Sumpter, TX.

On the Campaign

He was left behind, sick, on the march in Maryland in September 1862 and captured at Williamsport, MD on 16 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was exchanged and returned to duty, date not given. He was wounded in action at Chickamauga, GA on 19 September 1863.
