He was wounded by gunshot to the leg in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and captured.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to US Army General Hospital #4 in Frederick, MD on 28 September and transferred to GH #7 on 18 October. He was exchanged and returned to duty, date not given. He was appointed Orderly to General Colquitt. He was surrendered at Greensboro, NC on 26 April 1865.
