He was clerk of the court for Taylor County from 1852 to at least 1855, and had a business - McCann & Co. - in Butler, GA. He was listed as a miller in the US Census of 1860 for Taylor County. He enlisted as Private, Company G, 6th Georgia Infantry on 27 May 1861. He was appointed Sergeant then elected 2nd Lieutenant, dates not given.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
