Before Antietam

He enlisted as Corporal, 2nd Company, Minnesota Sharpshooters on 31 December 1861. He helped recruit for the Company in January 1862:

Mr. C. R. Eldridge [sic], member of Capt Russell's Company of Sharpshooters, is in town, and advertises to have a shooting match at Northfield, on the 20th inst. Mr.E will remain with us until the 25th of Jan, giving all an opportunity to join the Company, after a successful exhibition of their skill, or to make such inquiries as they may think best. His headquarters are at the Mansion House. We hope that all who are desirous of joining a good Company of Sharpshooters will take advantage of Mr Eldridge's presence.

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was back with his Company by December 1862 with no further record.
