A laborer on his brother Dennis's farm in Wyoming, MN, he enlisted as Private, 2nd Company, Minnesota Sharpshooters on 20 January 1862 at Wyoming, age 21.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in the head in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds in December 1862 at Frederick, MD.
