Before Antietam
He enlisted as Private, 2nd Company, Minnesota Sharpshooters on 15 July 1862.
On the Campaign
He was slightly wounded in the side in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was discharged 16 January 1863 to enlist in the First United States Cavalry. He enlisted in Company A, First US Cavalry at Falmouth, VA on 14 February 1863 but his enlistment was revoked in March 1863 (along with two other soldiers) and he was ordered returned to his Minnesota Company by General Hooker. There is no record of his rejoining his Company.
