Before Sharpsburg

A 20 year old teacher, he enlisted as Private, Company H, 2nd Mississippi Infantry, date not known. He was appointed 3rd Corporal on 1 August 1861 and 3rd Sergeant in about December 1861. He was appointed First Sergeant on 22 April 1862. He was wounded at Gaines' Mill, VA on 27 June 1862, at a hospital in Richmond, then returned to his Company.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and was later listed on the Confederate Roll of Honor for his bravery there.
