Before Sharpsburg

A 21 year old trader, he enlisted in the Iuka Rifles - Company K, 2nd Mississippi Infantry - in May 1861. He was promoted to 4th Corporal on 1 September 1861 and Sergeant, date not given, and elected First Lieutenant on 8 April 1862. He was promoted to Captain, to date from 30 August, when Captain Latham was killed at 2nd Manassas.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in the left thigh and both ankles and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds on 25 September 1862 at a US Army field hospital on or near the battlefield.
