He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was originally buried "in Benj. Grave's [Grove] young orchard on left hand side of road to Shepherdstown" near the battlefield at Sharpsburg. Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
