He enlisted as a Private in Company G, 4th Texas Infantry on 11 July 1861 in Grimes County. He was 3rd Corporal by July 1862 and was promoted to 5th Sergeant on 11 September.

On the Campaign

He was reported missing but had been captured on South Mountain on 15 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to First Sergeant on 5 February 1863 and was present with his Company until he as killed at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863.
