Age 18, he enrolled in Company A - the University Greys - 11th Mississippi Infantry at Oxford on 26 April 1861.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was captured at Falling Waters, MD on 14 July 1863 and was exchanged on 6 March 1863 at City, Point, VA. He was captured again, at Petersburg, VA on 2 April 1865 and released at Point Lookout, MD on taking the oath of allegiance on 20 June 1865.
