Before Sharpsburg
He was a student at Richmond College in 1853. From Henrico County, he enlisted as Sergeant, Company F, 15th Virginia Infantry on 22 April 1861. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 25 April 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was promoted to First Lieutenant on 25 January 1863. He was wounded again, at Drewery's Bluff, VA on 16 May 1864 and was absent, wounded to at least 15 December 1864. He was paroled 2 April 1865 at Manchester, VA.
After the War
He was Superintendent of Schools for Henrico County with offices in Richmond by 1887 and served to at least 1902.
