Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 16 year old living on his widowed mother Hanna's farm at Union Church in Jefferson County, MS. He enlisted and mustered as a Private in Company D, 19th Mississippi Infantry on 28 May 1861 at Fayette, MS. He was appointed 2nd Corporal about July 1862.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded by a gunshot to his leg and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He died of wounds at Sharpsburg on 1 November 1862.
