Age 18, from the Fairfield District, he enlisted as Private, Company B, 17th South Carolina Infantry on 14 December 1861 at Camp Hampton near Columbia, SC.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Boonsboro (Turner's Gap) on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.
