Before Antietam
He mustered into service as Private, Company D, 106th Pennsylvania Infantry on 26 August 1861. He was detailed as a telegraph operator, date not given.
On the Campaign
He was captured at Harpers Ferry, VA on 12 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He escaped and rejoined his Company, and was promoted to Sergeant Major of the regiment on 3 March 1863. He mustered out with them on 26 August 1864.
