Before Antietam
A 14 year old farmer, he gave his age as 18 when he enlisted on 15 December 1861 in Spring, PA and mustered into service as Private, Company H, 111th Pennsylvania Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was in action with his Company at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was promoted to Corporal on 14 April 1864 and mustered out with his Company on 19 July 1865.
