A 22 year old tailor, he enlisted on 16 October 1861 in Youngsville, PA and mustered into service as Private, Company H, 111th Pennsylvania Infantry on 2 November 1861.
On the Campaign
He was slightly wounded in action with his Company at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He mustered out with his Company on 19 July 1865 in Washington, DC.
