Age 38, he enlisted as Private, Company A, 2nd Mississippi Infantry at Corinth in May 1861 and transferred to Company L on 30 April 1862.
On the Campaign
He was captured in action on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was exchanged on 10 November 1862 and returned to duty. He was captured at Danville, MS on 25 April 1863 and sent to the Federal prison at Alton, IL in May.
