Before Sharpsburg

Age 30, he enlisted in February 1862 in Ripley as Private, Company B, 2nd Mississippi Infantry. He transferred to Company L on 30 April.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He hospitalized and furloughed, then returned to duty. He was wounded in the right shoulder at Gettysburg, PA, date not given. He was captured at Tupelo, MS on 14 July 1864 and held in the Federal prison at Alton, IL. He was paroled there for exchange on 17 February 1865.
