A 19 year old carpenter from Aberdeen, MS, he enlisted on 8 March 1862 in Verona as Private, Company C, 2nd Mississippi Infantry. He was wounded at Gaines' Mill, VA on 27 June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the left shoulder in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was discharged on a certificate of disability on 12 January 1863 at Staunton, VA from his Sharpsburg wound.
