He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was treated at a a hospital in Lynchburg, VA and returned to duty. He was wounded again, in the Wilderness, VA on 5 May 1864 and was again back with his Company. He was treated for a wound (place not given) on 27 September 1864 and furloughed for 60 days beginning 7 October. He was listed as absent without leave by February 1865.
