Age 23, he enlisted as Private, Company F, 2nd Mississippi Infantry, date not given. He was elected 2nd Lieutenant on 11 April 1862. He was wounded at Gaines' Mill on 27 June 1862 and returned to his Company.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the right leg in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was furloughed for 30 days on 11 October 1862 and then returned to duty. He resigned his commission on 24 November 1863 for disability from wounds.
