Age 24, he enlisted as Private, Company F, 2nd Mississippi Infantry, date not given. He was promoted to 5th Sergeant on 5 December 1861 and elected 2nd Lieutenant on 11 April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was furloughed for 30 days and returned to duty on 23 November 1862. He was captured at Hatcher's Run, VA on 2 April 1865 and held at Johnson's Island, OH until released 18 June 1865 after taking the oath of allegiance.
