Before Sharpsburg
He came to Mississippi with his family in about 1842. By then a 21 year old farmer, he enlisted as Sergeant, Company I, 2nd Mississippi Infantry, date not known. He was appointed First Sergeant on 23 April 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was commissioned Junior 2nd Lieutenant on 18 December 1862. He was on scout detail near Suffolk, VA and was killed while attempting to swim the Blackwater River to escape from Union soldiers.
