A 22 year old farmer in Pontotoc County, he enlisted as Private, Company I, 2nd Mississippi Infantry on 1 May 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was captured at Gettysburg, PA on 1 July 1863. He was again wounded in action, place not given, and admitted to a hospital on 10 November 1863 and returned to duty on 25 November. He was listed as a deserter after 25 March 1864.
