Before Sharpsburg

A 19 year old farmer, he enlisted as Private, Company I, 2nd Mississippi Infantry, date not given. He was promoted to First Corporal on 23 April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the right shoulder and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was paroled at Ft. McHenry, Baltimore on 25 October and sent to Aiken's Landing, VA for exchange. He was furloughed to Mississippi on 5 November 1862. He was promoted to 5th Sergeant on 16 May 1863. He was again wounded and captured, near Petersburg, VA on 1 October 1864 and imprisoned at Elmira, NY. He was released on 14 June 1865 after taking the oath of allegiance.
