Age 29, he enlisted in Iuka in Company K, 2nd Mississippi Infantry on 1 March 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the little finger of his left hand in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was admitted to General Hospital #21 in Richmond, VA on 27 September, later furloughed and returned to duty. He was captured near Petersburg, probably at Hatcher's Run, VA on 2 April 1865 and was held at Fort Delaware. He was released 11 June 1865 after taking the oath of allegiance.
