Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted in Grimes County as a Private in Company G, 4th Texas Infantry on 19 July 1861. He was appointed Corporal on 12 July 1862 and elected 3rd Lieutenant on 2 August.

On the Campaign

Shortly after the battle at Sharpsburg Colonel Carter reported:

Lieutenants [listed] and [John] Roach (of Company G), commanding Company H, were all wounded. Lieutenant Roach was left on the field, and I fear was mortally wounded.
There was no further information about Roach and by January 1863 he was listed killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
