Before Sharpsburg
An overseer in Clarendon County, he enlisted as Private in the 9th South Carolina Infantry on 4 June 1861. In a reorganization he transferred to Company E of the 6th South Carolina Infantry in the Spring of 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was admitted to CS General Hospital #3 in Richmond, VA on 26 September and returned to duty in March 1863. He was sick in hospital 13 June to 8 July 1864. He was surrendered at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.
After the War
He was a farmer in Shiloh, SC. He died between 1880 and 1890.
