He enlisted and mustered as Private, Company K, 37th Virginia Infantry on 22 April 1861 in Abingdon, VA.

On the Campaign

He was severely wounded in the shoulder in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was furloughed in October and returned to duty on 15 December 1862. He was captured at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863 and passed through Fort McHenry, MD to the prison at Fort Delaware. He was transferred to Point Lookout, MD on 26 October 1863 with no further record.
