Before Sharpsburg
A 23 year old minster, he enlisted and mustered as Private, Company B, 37th Virginia Infantry on 22 April 1861 in Abingdon, VA. He was promoted to First Corporal in January 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was reduced to Private in January 1864 and disabled by rheumatism by January 1865, when he was transferred to the Invalid Corps.
