Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted and mustered as Private, Company F, 37th Virginia Infantry on 10 March 1862 in Glade Spring, VA. He was captured at Woodstock, VA on 2 June 1862, held briefly, then exchanged on 6 June.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was captured again, at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863 and held at Fort Delaware until he was transferred to Point Lookout, MD on 26 October. He was released on 12 April 1864 after taking the oath of allegiance.
