Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted and mustered as Private, Company B, 37th Virginia Infantry in Abingdon, VA on 22 April 1861. He was promoted to 2nd Sergeant in January 1862 and commissioned First Lieutenant at the reorganization of 22 April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was wounded in the thigh (place not given), hospitalized in Charlottesville, VA on 9 May 1864, and returned to his Company on 17 June. He was hospitalized again, in the General Hospital, Winchester, VA on 25 July 1864 for the same or an additional wound and died there on 7 August 1864.
